Yggdrasil’s Movie List

At this stage in the movement for Euro-American survival, it is vital that we begin to assemble our own Media libraries filled with content that we can watch repeatedly - content that will gradually isolate us from the surrounding popular culture, and allow us to pay a smaller share of our incomes to the entertainment industry.

It is absolutely vital that we cancel our cable subscriptions, but that is extremely difficult to do unless we have quality media libraries as a substitute. Equally important, we need reliable information as to the movies you can rent or buy without fear of encountering the worst forms of negative conditioning messages and images.

Yggdrasil’s WN Movie List

I was going to include some commentary but after scanning Ygg’s preface I see no need.  I do want to add that the power of healthy entertainment is significant and its effect is somewhat shocking when juxtaposed with that of unhealthy entertainment.  Also, for parents I think the key is to build a library early on so that as your children grow you can insulate them from modern poison.  As Ygg has pointed out the craft of filmmaking has advanced considerably since the days when healthy entertainment was commonplace, so it’s vital to establish anachronistic norms early in life (so that conservative behavior, character acting, etc., strike your kids as normal and “sex, drugs and rock n’ roll” does not).

Here is a thread Ygg has posted at Stormfront, requesting suggestions and reviews for the list:

Yep, I see what you mean, The Movie; “Eyes Wired Shut” Was a bit psychedelic nut job’ish for my liking; Maybe I’m just a box head, but it was weird stuff.
Not just the media and Movies: Government pamphlets also throw a huge misleading inference on events; i.e. Last year the Government in Australia released a publication on Domestic violence, need I tell you the race on the cover and who it was referring to? Yep you got it, White man plastered all over it, not one picture of ANY ETHNIC or Aboriginal anywhere.
So the Government inferences are that Anglo’s are the perpetrators of Domestic violence, or is it they can offend Anglo’s as much as they like, and not offend any other Color or Nationality is Taboo.
On the other hand if it is a Touchy Feely wet Kiss job, then all- but -Anglo’s are featured; Interesting concept, Look for your next Government Publication, you will see exactly what I mean. If it is a negative, Anglo’s, if it is meant to portray the Positive it is Ethnic, got it. I getting a complex.

A bit daring… Svi.  Respectability, remember the moderates. I really like Ygg, his essays are terrific. I wonder how many know what that name means?

Anyway, I’m sure the English on the site will get a rise out of Braveheart?

Zulu, if only they had a few more Martini-Henry’s. I can tell you we need a lot of Martini-Henrys to clean up the mess we are into now.

But what a great movie, and those lobsterbacks - bringing light and civility to the dark corners of the world - all while looking great.

I especially recommend a viewing of Blade Runner with eyes open toward racial nationalism.  It’s all subconscious or accidental I’m sure, but unmistakeable nonetheless.

Here is my suggestion, if good humour is considered essential:

Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines - One of the most hilarious films I have ever seen. Full of the old pre-World War I national stereotypes. And it is wholly European except for a Japanese pilot who also participates in the race. Has anyone seen this film? If you haven’t, you can get it on Amazon. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00014NEX0.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I saw it when I was very young and absolutely loved it. I have seen it several times since then. Not many can match the antics of Terry Thomas I have to say. (chuckle)

7

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 08:42 AM | #

One thing that makes this film a valuable part of my DVD collection is that it is full of old idioms and expressions that aren’t used any more. For instance, describing a man as a “bounder” sounds very archaic now. But the film is full of such expressions. And Terry Thomas, as I say, adds his own unqiue touch to it. Positively hilarious.

Svigor,

I am surprised MacKenna’s Gold has not been included in this list. I for one enjoyed it.

And what of the early Leone films?

For a fistful of dollars

For a few dollars more

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly*

*This gets highly contentious. Leone was apparently a hard-core leftist. However the one image that strikes me from this film is the way in which he depicts Northern behaviour towards the South, which is on the verge of defeat. This includes depictions of southern POWs which may in fact be historically inaccurate. Nonetheless, anyone seeing it would be able to contrast it with more modern Hollywood fare which depicts Southerners as monsters.

9

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 09:37 AM | #

Another highly contentious suggestion: Ben Hur.

There are several problems with this film. Its depiction of “history” is very inaccurate. Almost completely absent from the crucifixion is the involvement of Jewish religious demagogues. The crucifixion appears to be a completely Roman exercise. One finishes watching the movie with a sense that the Romans were absolute one-dimensional villains.

But for all of that, this is still a powerful movie for Christians at a time when Hollywood has declared all out war on Christianity.

10

Posted by Geoff Beck on January 01, 2006, 11:56 AM | #

> Leone was a hard core leftist.

I did not know that.

BTW, Phil, I enjoy the music of Ennio Morriconi. He is the fellow that wrote many of the scores to Leone’s films.

I hope you enjoy this site:

I took a quick look at this very fine list of movies but didn’t notice The Godfather. Part Two is mentioned at the very bottom. One of the best essays Samuel Francis ever wrote was The Godfather as Political Metaphor. The film featuring the conflict between Gemainschaft and Gesellschaft belongs on any movie list for right wingers. I’d also add The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and the french film La Gloire de mon pere.

Some of the selections are odd. Robin Hood Prince of Theives was feminist PC rubbish. To me About Schmidt was just more sneering at soulless white Middle America. Brooke Shields (age 14) in the Blue Lagoon for “aesthetic” reasons? Well…maybe.

Yggdrasil deserves our thanks for putting this list together. I’ve saved it for future reference.

Some people on the right (Lawrence Auster, Spencer Warren) don’t like Leone’s Westerns. Their criticism being that the violence is nihilistic whereas in older Westerns it’s about defending civilisation.

14

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:07 PM | #

Geoff,

I like Morricone’s music too. I have all the DVDs and the Music too. The Music is brilliant. It is absolutely original and timeless.

Leone was a great director despite whatever flaws he may have had and whatever his political ideas may have been.

15

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:12 PM | #

Matra,

The point about nihilistic violence is absolutely valid.

Before Leone came along, Hollywood had an unwritten rule about Westerns - you couldn’t show the gunshot and the man in the same picture and showing a lot of blood, gore and brutality was absolutely out. leone changed all that. And mostly for the worse I would say.

But having said that, those Westerns are good films. They aren’t for kids. But if you can have a certain artistic appreciation for them, they are very good. But more importantly, although they do not glorify America (or the Old West), they also do not indulge in PC guilt ridden nonsense.

And I do think they have a subtle moral tone. The man with no name is not a money hungry monster. He does have a conscience and he shows it in all three films. I particularly liked the way Van Cleef played Colonel Mortimer in For a Few Dollars More.

16

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:15 PM | #

Amazing coincidence, I watched The Godfather yesterday on DVD. I had seen it about four times before. And yet, it was like seeing it fresh. Brando is absolutely brilliant. And Al Pacino’s performance is masterly.

Hollywood is incapable of producing films like that now. Utterly incapable. The obsession with cultural Marxism and with techno special effects makes that impossible.

I don’t know what moral message The Godfather has for WNs. It is a story about Italian immigrants who go into organized crime and go to dominate it for many decades. But perhaps Francis’ point is valid (and it is certainly original. I had never thought of it that way).

17

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:19 PM | #

I have seen The Man who shot Liberty Valance. It is a good movie although I remember getting a little bored when I saw it because it moved so slowly. Also, Jimmy Stewart’s character really engages in some very plain and boring routines of the “book learnin” man. Especially where he is teaching the kids in School. But for all of that, the movie comes with a powerful message. And it is good overall.

Matra,

You are also right about some of his choices. I would never watch some of those films. I guess he put them there so that the list would contain some contemporary material too. There is always a danger with these lists to become frozen in time because so much rubbish is produced in the name of mass entertainment these days.

18

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:27 PM | #

Another addition to the list: Von Ryan’s Express.

This would be controversial for some White Nationalists because it is about World War II. However, I think the film is brilliant. Unlike other World War II films, there isn’t an obsession with portraying Germans as absolute monsters. Instead the film concentrates more on the heroism of individual British and American officers. Being English, I didn’t like it the first time beause I perceived it to show the British as arrogant and treating the American officer as an ignorant upstart.

But I have seen it a few times since and I love this film. I didn’t like The Dirty Dozen, which is a favourite of all WWII fans.

John Wayne’s Comancheros.

It isn’t a great movie but it is good entertainment. And it is absolutely clean.

21

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 01:36 PM | #

I am also surprised that this list doesn’t include Mel Gibson’s Maverick.

Granted that it has the odious Jody Foster, but it is good nonetheless.

Also good entertainment but not a great movie, try John Wayne’s Chisum.

For Comdey, almost all of Laurel and Hardy’s films are safe. Some aren’t that great and some are real classics. I see that YG has listed Sons of the Desert in that lot. I first saw it when I was 13 and laughed my guts out. And it is still a riot.

But there are others too, like A Chump at Oxford. Another that I liked watching is a very old one called Another Fine Mess. It also features the breathtakingly beautiful Thelma Todd who was killed by the Mafia in 1935 at the age of 30.

26

Posted by Matra on January 01, 2006, 02:25 PM | #

I’d say pretty much anything with John Wayne in it will be pro-Western civilisation.

Another movie on the list that annoyed me is Pushing Tin with John Cusack, Angelina Jolie, and Billy Bob Thornton playing some part-Indian character. The movie itself is fine enough entertainment but near the end there’s a long scene involving the wise semi-Indian passing on insights to the white character played by Cusack. If American Indians are so filled with greatness and wisdom, as Hollywood keeps telling us,  how come they ended up being some of history’s biggest losers?

Geoff Beck:

> Lawrence Auster

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

Auster is fairly good on just about every topic…unless it has something to do with Jews.

Phil:

For bone-chilling horror/suspense without stupid tomato ketchup flying routines, try Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Really Good film.

The lovely California seaside town of Bodega Bay, where The Birds was shot is now close to 20% Hispanic. It wasn’t an invasion of birds they had to fear.

I’d say pretty much anything with John Wayne in it will be pro-Western civilisation.

I’d say almost. This movie was appaling rubbish from that point of view. I couldn’t believe Wayne acted in this film.

28

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 02:58 PM | #

I am also surprised YG has included the Gene Wilder version of Sherlock Holmes.

Jeremy Brett played Sherlock Holmes and his performance was much better. (Also Wilder doesn’t really look English in any conceivable sense!)

Anyway, I’m sure the English on the site will get a rise out of Braveheart?

Geoff,

Making a film like Braveheart is easy because making villians out of the English is all part of the standard Hollywood formula.

Similarly, Mel Gibson’s movie on the American Revolution contained some appalling rubbish from a historical standpoint. A lot of it was ahistorical nonsense. But you can get away with that because As I said, making villains out of the English suits Hollywood fine.

Making villains out of Blacks or Mexicans would make a man a permanent pariah in that Marxist dominion.

30

Posted by Phil on January 01, 2006, 03:06 PM | #

I should have said that Braveheart also contained a lot of ahistorical nonsense. But I won’t get into that here.

31

Posted by Svyatoslav Igorevich on January 01, 2006, 03:07 PM | #

Auster is fairly good on just about every topic…unless it has something to do with Jews.

That’s what I was going to say, except to add that that qualifies him over just about everyone “mainstream” you can read these days.

I think asking jews to be honest about jews is just asking too much.  Might as well accept him on his merits, as with Michael Levin.

Let’s not blame jews for being sane enough (unlike whites), practically to a man, to refrain from deconstructing themselves.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ll make sure Ygg sees this thread.

“the breathtakingly beautiful Thelma Todd”  (—Phil)

I’d never heard of her, so on the strength of Phil’s opinion I googled her just now.  In one excerpt from an issue of Photoplay Magazine from the year 1930 she is described as follows:  “5 feet 6, weighs 117, and has golden blonde hair and dark blue eyes.”  Look closely at her face:  she was indeed beautiful, having a particular kind of Euro-female beauty that was once widely appreciated but is no longer valued by Hollywood—which is our loss.

I’m on AOL and for some reason I can’t get the fifth picture of her (in my comment above, which didn’t come out) into a comment, whether as an image, a link, or a URL address—it won’t come out as any of those.  It’s a nice picture, showing that pre-1940s kind of Euro-female beauty she had which is no longer appreciated by Hollywood but which is well worth rediscovering and admiring.  You can see the picture if you take the following URL, insert a percent sign followed by 20 between “prices” and “realized,” between “09938” and “dbk,” between “dbk” and “thelma,” and between “thelma” and “todd,” close all the skipped spaces, then paste the resulting URL into your browser box and hit “Go.”

Fred,

She looks beautiful in some of those pictures and not so in some. But the point is, photography in those days was nowhere near as good as it today and so it cannot really capture it to the degree that it does with today’s stars.

Watch Another Fine Mess in which she plays the young wife of an English aristocrat (its actually satire on the archetypal English aristocrat (chuckle)). That is the only film in which I have seen her. She did other films but I haven’t seen those. I remember watching Another Fine Mess and remember being suddenly struck at her entrance in the film. And she does look awesome in that film. Actually the picture you posted which looks like a film reel is from that movie.

The film is pretty hilarious anyway but her presence just adds something extra to it and makes it special. You can order it from Amazon and the DVD which includes this film also includes Sons of the Desert, which is also pretty funny.

It is of course a different kind of humour to what we are used to. But I for one always enjoyed it just as much.

After I saw the film, I became curious as to why she didn’t become a mega star given her obvious advantages. Then I found out that she died in mysterious circumstances. What kind of animal murders a woman that beautiful? One has to wonder.

It seems the L&H DVD I linked to isn’t the best available. There appear to problems with it as apparent from the comments at Amazon.

Awesome list, Ive watched a whole bunch so far.. love the charlton heston! but i think i should note that the villains in “Gunga Din” are not a ‘fanatical moslem sect’ but the thuggee.. a hindu murdercult who robbed and strangled thousands in the name of the goddess Kali (wife of Shiva). remember indiana jones and the temple of doom? thats them. they were defeated by the British and Indian government in the 1830s(?). Thuggee is also where the word “thug” comes from.

I like the Jeeves and Wooster series, with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.  The actors are screaming libs but the show is very good with very little of today’s PC.  It’s clean and clever (based on PG Wodehouse’s stories) and the language and behavior of the upper classes of the time is very interesting to watch.  The old English period phrases are great, as is the historical accuracy of the scenery, dress, mannerisms, and political and social references.

I’m going through Ygg’s list currently and using Netflix; my local Blockbuster and Hollywood outlets have almost none of Ygg’s recommendations at all.  I love being able to quickly add a movie recommendation to my list and then forget about it.  We’re probably going to cancel our cable subscription completely (we’re on the basic $15/month plan) since we hardly watched TV anyway before, and even less now.

40

Posted by rustymason on October 12, 2006, 09:56 AM | #

Is there perchance a way to add a movie list here with a rating system?  Ygg’s list is good, but I’d like to be able to have a rating system and user comments attached to each one.  It’s not worth my programming a separate site for such a thing, but I thought it would be handy if a forum’s existing features allowed that kind of thing.

41

Posted by Guessedworker on October 12, 2006, 11:56 AM | #

Rusty,

There’s no problem adding a movies page hot-buttoned on the side-bar.  I think it would be a worthwhile project.  But it would need care and attention ... someone to edit the page and, ideally, develop it as a data base with the usual formal details of each film, ideally also a review or reviews and dvd availabilty.  Did I miss anything?

In the end it comes down to man-power.  If you, Rusty, or another wants to run the show we’ll be glad to play host.

42

Posted by rustymason on October 12, 2006, 02:40 PM | #

I was just wondering if there was already some sort of existing programmic structure that exists for such a thing that could be adapted for use on your site.  If it’s going to be a full-blown effort of building a DB and editing and pasting a whole lot of material, that would be too much.  For that much work, I would do it on my own site.

For example, movies in one of your subforums could each get its own thread and users could post comments about it there.  The man in charge of the subforum (me, I guess) could do the posting, adding information such as availability and category sorting labels (action, drama, comedy).  But I don’t think the forum has a method of rating each thread nor of sorting by rating or category.  If your forum already had a built-in feature, such as polling and thread-rating, that your ISP could simply turn on, then that’s more of what I was looking for.  Thanks anyway.

43

Posted by Guessedworker on October 12, 2006, 03:37 PM | #

Rusty,

The simplest thing would be to create a new category in our list named Movies or Movies for Nationalists,  or even Rusty Mason on Movies.  Then hot link on the side-bar to the category cache.  First page up (which would have to be a “sticky”, I guess) would be the list as it grows by date, with each movie post and its customary thread below that.

There may be a more streamlines way to do it - and JR is the guy around here who might have a better idea.  But it can be done quite easily.

44

Posted by rustymason on October 12, 2006, 03:59 PM | #

Can the movies be rated by the forum visitors by pushing a button, and automatically sorted by the forum visitors through a simple sort mechanism?  That’s the functionality that is missing from the current amateur movie lists.  I don’t want it to be my movie reviews and my recommendations, I want the members here to be able to post movies and have forum visitors rate the movies as well as comment about them.  JR, have any ideas on this?

45

Posted by rustymason on October 12, 2006, 04:03 PM | #

I think SF’s software has a “rate this thread” option.  Does your board do that, possibly?  If so, maybe that might work.  Even better if the movies (threads) could be sorted.

Inspired by Bertie Wooster. If you’ll check out the Majority Rights sidebar you’ll see an “Andy Wooster” listed. One of these days I may even post something.  I got the Wooster from Bertie. The “Andy” has nothing to do with Wodehouse.
