1,000,000

In Guessedworker’s, absence, I must make the proclamation - MajorityRights.com crossed 1 million hits today. This is a fabulous achievement for our blog, considering the fact that it has barely been a year since we started. It hasn’t been an easy road - although I can only speak for myself. I have delivered nowhere near the volume of commentary and involvement I had promised David (Guessedworker) at the start.

And we have all had our disagreements - some mild, some furious, some….........more than furious(!!), shall we say. But we have stuck together and seen it through this far.

I wish to thank all the bloggers at MR - John Ray, Mark Richardson, Geoff Beck, JW Holliday, J Richards, Martin Hutchinson, Søren Renner, Will Barrett, Matt Nuenke, Charles Copeland, Johan Van Vlaams and of course David himself - without your tireless efforts this would have been well nigh impossible.

And, my heart-felt thanks to all our readers and commenters. Without you, this blog would be nowhere near as lively.

Lastly, I should add that we are a blog that prides itself on free speech. And we have stuck to the principle - we have been threatened with boycotts, but we have maintained freedom of expression on this blog.

Anyway, on that note, it is time for me to open that bottle of Champagne!

To All MR Readers:

There has been a fair amount of contention between all segments participating the MR experience. This, in the whole, has been positive.

I know my thinking and the ideas which I entertain have been refined and new vistas have come into view.

Where necessary I have defended my views and at times I’ve reconsidered my thinking. For all those genuinely participating in this process - both with and against me - I want to express my gratitude.

Also To All:
This place, out of the whole net, is where I feel most at home. Thank you all. Don’t forget to check on Saturday for a new (yet unpopular) riddle! The Saturday Riddle Classic will rest in history on a bed of nails, to quote Negativland. Let’s work on the second million hits.

It’s a remarkable number; congratulations indeed to all the organizers, especially “Guessedworker.”

For one thing, it is particularly multinational and multicultural, in the sense (he adds quickly!)that it has financial types from the posher bits of the Home Counties, journos from the badlands of the Washington suburbs, Aussie intellectuals and Geoff from Kansas and the Border patrol. I genuinely know of no other blog that is quite as eclectic!

I second that.  This is a unique and special part of cyberspace.  My thanks go out to the hosts, the bloggers, and the commenters.

So how many unique hits, approximately, are you getting in an average day, week? Has it gone up substantially since the first few months?

I wonder how many of those visits were from people who monitor hate groups.  Remember, visiting and approving are not the same thing.

Yes.  I have often expressed how much I enjoy this blog—even though I am something of a “token nigger” here.

And I think we should also thank our many commenters too. I am sure that the commenters add as much interest as do the bloggers.

And of course raise a glass to our most beloved and passionate Commenter:  Fred “Scrooby”

It is great to read and participate in Majorityrights.com. Web page, it is amazing to think you know everyone “the regulars” but we have never met in person. With my head that’s good. Ha.
Congratulations on a successful blog, hope a million more come in a shorter time frame. I think June Likes us, but in small steps, and with the sophisticated Poster’s and commentary it is no wonder it is successful and educational. We appresiate Phil’s and GW hard work to make the site what it is.many thanks.

I concur with all of the above, with the obvious exception being June.  This is the most informative of blogs and the commenters are first rate.  Thank you for a wonderful education.

I also agree that JJR is the “token nigger”. tongue wink

It is much higher than what we had at the start. We tend to “average” over 5,000 hits a day. This can go a lot higher as well. On some days it has gone up to 14,000.

Thank you everyone for all your kind words. Thanks again to John, Martin, Geoff and to all our bloggers. To summarise what David told me when we first began mulling over the idea of a blog, this is a blog for intense debate on the Right. There are no “tailor made” bloggers here, everyone is different ideologically (though technically all of us are on the “right”).

The purpose of the blog is to achieve some level of consensus on the “Right” as to the nature of the crisis facing the Western world. We hope to keep doing this in the future.

Congrats!

But you really must subtract for all the hits comming from the ‘hate monitors’ of enlightened groups like the SPLC, ADL, CRE . Oh perhaps more hit from those groups is the best metric of success of all.

Posted by Svigor on October 27, 2005, 12:30 PM | #

I think it’s safe to say that little scares the SPLC and ADL types more than a Website like this one.  There are no swastikas, goose-steppers, genocidalists, wackos, or terrorists (other than the occasional leftist wacko like June) to point at and hype up.

Has any watchdog group ever issued an alert about MR?  I’d be surprised if one had.  That isn’t the sort of publicity they’re into.

“I wonder how many of those visits were from people who monitor hate groups.  Remember, visiting and approving are not the same thing.”  (—June Gordon)

June, in your important role as a hate-group monitor are you busy monitoring the SPLC, the ADL, and the ACLU (hate groups all, as everyone knows)?
______

Thank you, John Ray, for your kind words above.  That coming from an intellect of your calibre and an individual of your integrity is a high compliment.  You are, as I’ve said, one of the half-dozen or so sharpest minds critiquing the left writing anywhere today, online or off.  Thank you for your contributions both here and at your own blogs.

Hearty congratulations to GW and the MR.com bloggers, first-raters every one!

Yes, congratulations to GW and the others responsible.  I hope no one will be offended if I opt for a Cremant d’Alsace instead of Champagne….

Thanks to all of you and especially to David. In the next year I hope to continue my sparse effort and post from time to time a little message about Flanders (or South-Africa or the Netherlands).

Thanks to Phil for making this gesture during my grey sojourn on the motorways of England.  Like him I’ve been watching MR’s rising hit total.  I had hoped the million might arrive by the 14th of this month, which was the day of the launch article last year.  Neat solutions rarely apply though, do they?

In any case, neither timing nor even milestones like this really matter.  Quality is the thing, and for the very high standard of analysis, writing and research that has gone into this blog over the last twelve months I have to thank everyone involved and, too, the truly exceptional MR commenters who round and amplify our efforts.  It isn’t necessary, I think, to name them all.  I might get into trouble for leaving somebody out.  I will say that, speaking for myself, I have learned something from everybody and a great deal from some, and I am grateful to all.

Mention has been made above of the somewhat discursive character of the blog.  Why is that so?  Because we who understand that the West is in grave peril have no power by which to change anything.  Among those who do have that possibility there are two broads groups.  The first, for a variety of reasons, cannot properly evaluate the future which awaits us.  The second actually desires that future, and works for it unceasingly.

The task for us, then - as for all who have their eyes open - is to carry our analysis and our ideas as close as we are able to the mainstream without compromising the message.  We work, if at all possible, to split group A from group B.

I do not know what measurable effect efforts such as MR can have.  Individually, perhaps, very little.  We are few.  But we care too much to retire to our private concerns, and for that how gratifying it would be if future generations had reason to be at least a little grateful.
