Once a Chinese ...

Bruce Lahn, the researcher behind the September 2005 Science papers on brain genes and population distribution, is an interesting fellow. A little research resulted in the finding that a biography of Dr Lahn appeared in the August 29, 2005 issue of “The Scientist.” Here we learn that when Lahn was an undergraduate at Beijing University in the late 1980s, he was an anti-communist “rebel.” Lahn managed to transfer to Harvard University in the USA before the Tiananmen Square massacre. He is now a researcher at the University of Chicago.

So … given all of that, and given the Asiatic claim of “ideology trumps ethnicity”, one would expect that Lahn would embrace his adopted land of America and, consistent with wonderful, ethnically-disinterested “Constitutional Patriotism”, eschew communist China and do everything possible to help the USA in its scientific/technological competition with the PRC. Right? “I err … well, not quite.” Dr. Lahn does some research in China, and states the following (from “The Scientist” article):

I believe the way to develop China is not to overthrow the communist government. The costs of that, in terms of violence and the ensuing chaos, may actually be too high a price to pay. Instead I want to help China develop scientifically, by promoting the exchange of information, the exchange of people, the flow of ideas. And I’d like to pursue research directions that will put China on the map [and] make China a leader in the world instead of having the country play a me-too, catch-up role.

Now, isn’t that interesting? Let’s look at this. Lahn is admitted to the USA, and escapes the vicious crackdown on anti-communists in his homeland. He is given every opportunity in America (a nation founded by white men and with a white majority) and he uses his “cognitive elitism” to prosper, and build a successful career and scientific influence – using the white man’s universities and the white man’s infrastructures, and, presumably, the white man’s grant monies as well (the majority of US taxpayers are white, after all).

China is America’s foremost competitor, led by a government that Lahn – at least in the past – professed to despise. Ideologically, it would seem, America should be Lahn’s “promised land”; it certainly has been so with respect to his personal well being and career success. America also has problems with science education amongst its native population, and could certainly use any help in that regard with respect to its competitors.

What does Lahn do? His self-described mission, it seems, is to help China develop scientifically and be a “leader in the world!”

Talk about ethnicity trumping ideology! How about ethnic interests and ethnic nepotism as well? How about ingratitude? How about free-riding on the back of America’s majority?

And how about a confirmation of what has been stated on Majority Rights many times – that all these hard-working, intelligent, “cognitive elitist” Asians will leverage their success in our nations to help their own co-ethnics

But, hey, all you extended phenotypes out there – don’t forget, for YOU it is Constitutional Patriotism, disregard for ethic interests, ethnic genetic interests are “mystical”, ethnic nepotism is stupid and not adaptive, “ideology trumps ethnicity”, and how dare whites even think about collective ethnic group activism!

For the Asiatics though, it is all quite clear- and completely the opposite.

Ah yes, monopolization is the best form of competition, is it not, oh ye Eastern men? Make sure the whites never think in terms of race, while guys like Lahn, building his career and life’s success in America, works to make China into a “world leader.”

Anyone waking up out there?

And yet is it not true of many immigrants, Mr. Holliday? My Father spoke many times, angrily, about Scots or Italians taking their government pensions and returning home. The work he is promoting in China is related to stem cells. It is not particularly advanced, however, places like China and Korea do present less red-tape for embryonic stem cell research.

However, his work should have significant consequence putting to rest the liberal notion of no differences between large racial groups. Another white scientific giant, Darwin, is proven correct, smashing the Marxist/Freudian nonsense. Natural selection obviously occured. It obviously, although none say this except Sailer, impacts cognition and the mutation (ASPM) shows most often in Caucasians. It portends greater results for white collectivism than any achievement he might ever make in China.

Isn’t Lahn the guy who’s shown that we’re still evolving, and thereby blown the PC crowd out of the water? If so, he needs to have a base in China—the Harvard Faculty Club’s reaction will make Tienanmen Square look like a picnic!

Also, let’s not whinge about those who are on our side!

Excellent post. I don’t doubt that part of the reason that it’s an asian immigrant who did this research is that most whites with a scientific bent are brainwashed from childhood into avoiding any matters which threaten the egalitarian party line.

It seems that there’s a very low “glass ceiling”, often self-observed, which prevents the rise of politically incorrect researchers.

By contrast, I don’t think that asians in general harbor many delusions regarding the myth of egalitarianism.

Their willingness, if not eagerness, to address the unavoidable facts of reality will enable them to reap increasingly crucial rewards.

We, on the other hand, will fall further and further behind, being hamstrung by the utopian ideology which permeates our society from the top down.

The point of the post is to show that ethnicity does trump ideology, at least for Asians, and Lahn is a spectacular case of this.

That is not to deny the importance of his work, nor his considerable abilities as a scientist.

The question is to where does he have his loyalty with respect to these “considerable abilities.”

This is an excellent point. However, I think it will fall apart under examination. The question is one of degree, and given the facts of Social Identity, and given the salience of race (and let’s not ignore intra-European racial differences here) I think the conclusions should be obvious.

If you won’t then I might come up with a post, but it will take a couple of days since I am going to get wasted by boozing and jiving with fat Negresses in a bongo party that I will be attending in celebration of science inching closer toward providing hard, fool-proof evidence for Negroid intellectual deficit and cognitive ineptitude.

The difference is that the Bell Curve was psychology, and written by a member of the US Establishment (very nice guy, incidentally.) This on the other hand is hard science, and more difficult to argue with, though GWB certainly tries from time to time, and the researcher always has the opportunity to take the research and the industry to which it will probably lead back to China if he feels like it.

To take Guessedworker’s dichotomy, which is in my view false, this will convince the “brains” that the “bloods” have considerable intellectual arguments on their side. Railing about Jews, negresses and slitty-eyed Chinamen, on the other hand, will have precisely the opposite effect.

Conservatism is largely a matter of values, not race.

Fred, no one ever seemed much convinced for the “triumph” of reason over faith, but gradually faith faded from the public sphere. You still have plenty of Christians around, but no one is very theocratic anymore.

When people are fed up, and those who are making them that way just can’t seem to take a hint, they may resort to strong language: everyone understands that. Sometimes one’s sole recourse is to spell things out in plainest, starkest terms since the others are blind, deaf, and dumb to everything else—or skillfully pretend to be. I think Martin is asking us, under those trying circumstances, to count slowly to ten before offering our opinions, and that’s good advice which I for one will try to heed. He’s saying even when we’ve had it up to here, an effort at making an outward show of moderation is not only right by itself but may even be rewarded with a bigger, more attentive audience among those very ones who keep astounding us by not being on our side in the first place. Perhaps Martin’s got a point—not much reward to be reaped from scaring people away.

To change subjects a little: “Conservatism is largely a matter of values, not race.” (—Martin)

None among MR.com’s bloggers or regular readers would dispute that both those, values and race, are important, or that regardless of which has the greater importance, race cannot simply be entirely discounted, as some try to get away with. Sincere, conscientious, thorough discounting of race as Marxists, Christians, CCRs, Wall-Streeters and others claim to want will not lead to workable societal organization but to unworkable and unpleasant places such as Mexico, South Africa, and New-Orleans-writ-large. Does any of us want to move from where we are now to one of those places?

I don’t quite understand how Lahn’s actions compare to some old Scot or Italian retiring with their pension in Scotland or Italy.

From the perspective of the a-racial “Constitutional Patriotism” that GNXP promotes (for whites), Lahn’s actions are, IMO, a gross slap in the face to America.

Look at it:-

1) Lahn’s an ideological foe of the communist PRC regime,

2) If he had stayed in the PRC he may have been jailed or even killed,

3) He prospered in America, a land more to his ideological inclinations, BUT ...

4) He is using the resources and prestige he obtained by exploiting America’s infrastructure to aid China - America’s foremost strategic competitor! - to become a world leader.

Why China, hmm? With respect to stem cell research, other nations - non-communist nations that do not target the USA with nuclear weapons - also have strong stem cell programs. Why China?

Gee ... has it something to do with the fact that Lahn is ... gasp! ... Chinese?

Ethnicity trumps ideology. Case closed.

JW, The old Scot employs the same principle. He leaves his own country for economic reasons, benefits from the infrastructure and resources of his adopted land and then returns home, still supported by the infrastructure of his adopted land, and spends his money there, for the benefit of his homeland. He may not have attained Lahn’s prestige but the principle remains the same. Ethnicity still triumphs.

WN’s should encourage Lahn to attain his goal. Stem cell research is not nukes. Nukes nor scientists like Lahn are a threat to white ethnicity. It is the unfettered mass immigration, the race replacement, which threatens native whites. Pray Lahn is successful. It can only help to check mass immigration.

We are getting off the point here. The point of the post was not to personally attack Lahn, nor minimize his work. It was, simply, that he is a rather spectacular refutation of the GNXP mantra of “ideology trumps ethnicity.” Now, that Scots, Italians, or any other European people act the same way confirms, rather than refutes, what I am saying.

The major difference is that there really is no big ideological divide there. Are you from Australia? Last I looked, neither Scotland nor Italy were communist regimes in competition with Australia (or, if you are from England, the same applies). We are not dealing with “anti-communist” Scots and Italians who decide to help a “communist Scotland or Italy” based on ethnic identification.

And, by the way, stem cell research may well have significant applications with long-term competitive and national security implications, who knows? The point remains, WHY is the anti-communist Lahn working to make communist PRC into a “world leader?”

Svigor has obviously never heard of the Christian Reconstructionist movement, for starters. You can’t get more theocratic than that.

He also GREATLY exaggerates how much faith has “faded” from the public square. Look at all the pushing of “Intelligent Design”... the Christian Zionists affecting foreign policy… Bush basing his policies on talks with God. And, anything that really has “faded” can easily “unfade.”

JW, True there is no communist competition, however, there is competition. Take the case of Sir Terry Matthews, Welsh industrialist, who used Canadian infrastructure and resources not available in his native land to become a billionaire. He then return to his native Wales to build the imposing Celtic Manor Hotel and bring the 2010 Ryder Cup to Wales.

The site Welsh heroes writes -

“Coming from the Valley’s then going to Canada he never forgot his roots and has brought many jobs and opportunities to the people of Wales.”

Why does Wales benefit from Sir Terry’s largesse when Canada allowed him his success? The answer remains the same.

If Lahn wants to return to China and ameliorate the hardline stance of the Chinese gov’t, it should be supported. And if stem cells may become a security issue, why is the US forcing scientists to seek other national venues in order to further their work.

There is nothing ironic there. Majority rights must mean that the true people of any nation are able to pursue their own ethnic interests without external interference. Obviously, our blog is focussed on European peoples, but it certainly should support non-Europeans who hold to that template. I would have no difficulty in publishing a view from a non-European which supported the majority rights ethic.

It interests me, for example, that Han Chinese think we are worth reading because there is a genuine universality at work here - none of that liberal crap, which is a “universality” predicated on anti-majority racism.

Gee, Desmond, does the US government do anything consistent with national security? They could start with closing the borders first. Bush is against stem cell research in order to “throw a bone” to his stupid Red state evangelical supporters; he could care less about the implications.

It applies to every ethnic group. I have never heard of this guy but he’s not handing over an american F-22A to China , is he? stem cell sound peaceful to me.
I don’t understand your post, it’s the americans who benefit from this guy going to america, if you think that China is behind america in science then you are very deluded.

In fact most american weapon research programs are developed by american Chinese, now I don’t like that, because I want these people to work on Chinese weapon programs instead. Yeah, all the hardware and software is developed by Chinese americans, how fucking ironic can that be. Contrary to what people think, China is on par with america in military technology, the only thing we need right now are carriers, big ones, trade with west is useless, we get only useless dollars back in return, honestly I don’t understand why we trade with west.

Why whine about him, look at the other ethnic groups in america who are helping their home countries, I don’t have to tell you about that, or even run and bribe your politicians. I don’t hear you conplain about that.

To me trade with west is useless and I want China to concentrate more on building a navy to beat everybody else and a nuclear force to wipe out the hostiles on the planet if necessary. I mean I don’t even understand why the idiots in Beijing are actually buying american bonds, but one thing is sure in time of crises the military will only listen to generals not politicians, so bribe fools will not help west. You may think that bribes works in every country but you are bribing people nobody listen to and that’s that.
