The Obscured Meaning of the Karl Rove Soap OperaThe American press corps is assaulting the White House. Recently, they were down right nasty and persistent during a press conference with White House spokesmouth Scott McClellan. Yet, in the end it was a game personal destruction, one-upmanship and ‘gotcha!’, politics of an imperial court. Forgotten is the cause of the uproar: the fixing of intelligence to justify war in Iraq. Here is what the press won’t report and the American people seemingly don’t want to know: Karl Rove (allegedly) leaked the name of Valerie Plame, a CIA agent, perhaps for revenge against Ambassador Joseph Wilson. Wilson, just after the Iraq attack wrote an editorial deflating the Bush Administration’s claims that Saddam had attempted to purchase uranium from Niger. Valerie Plame is the wife of Joseph Wilson. BTW, Wilson was right and Bush was wrong. It is quite possible Karl Rove – a.k.a. Bush’s Brain, Boy Genius, and Turd Blossom - will be fired, fined, or jailed all without the American public realizing the cause of the affair. Posted by Geoff Beck on July 14, 2005, 05:38 PM | # Seeing that there was no, so called, “yellowcake uranium”, I would think his research was proved correct. Adding to this the numerous lies cooked-up by the White house, I don’t see how you can attempt to undermine Wilson. Remember this one: UAVs filled with chemical weapons heading to America? A good one to scare the soccer mom demographic. 3
Posted by Morris Howell on July 14, 2005, 09:48 PM | # Not sure what you mean by no yellowcake. Do you mean that Niger was never a source for yellowcake? Perhaps Wissam al-Zahawie’s tour of Africa was purely diplomatic. As to the issue of UAVs people far more qualified that I have made the assertion that Iraq possessed such devices. http://cshink.com/yaalon_iraq_had_chemical.htm I do agree however, that there was no way they we’re heading for America. PS. Geoff, Despite are apparent disagreement on this particular issue I greatly appreciate your blog and will be sure to stay updated on your post regularly. Regards, 4

Senate Select Committee On Intelligence Unanimous Report: “Conclusion 13. The Report On The Former Ambassador’s Trip To Niger, Disseminated In March 2002, Did Not Change Any Analysts’ Assessments Of The Iraq-Niger Uranium Deal.” (Senate Select Committee On Intelligence, “Report On The U.S. Intelligence Community’s Prewar Assessments On Iraq,” 7/7/04)
This may not discredit Wilson’s conclusions but it does call into question his research.
