An immigration liberal stirs up a hornet’s nest in Arizona

I gather that most local newspapers in border States refuse to publish anti-immigration letters so this report is a rare crack in the dam

In last week’s column, which has since been published by The San Diego Union-Tribune, the Arizona Daily Star and several other U.S. newspapers, I disputed claims that Hispanics are “taking over” the nation. I had quoted Dobbs’ April 14 on-air comment that “the invasion of illegal aliens is threatening the health of many Americans,” because “highly contagious diseases are now crossing our borders.” And I criticized Huntington’s claim that “the biggest” threat to America’s national identity “comes from the immense and continuing immigration from Latin America.” These claims are wrong, I said, because Hispanics over time are assimilating and because no amount of fences along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexican border will stop the flow of undocumented workers as long as the per capita income gap between the United States and Mexico remains as wide as it is ($36,000 vs. $9,000 a year.) The solution, I concluded, is helping narrow the U.S-Mexico per capita income gap. It was only a matter of hours before my e-mail inbox started to fill up. Among the most polite ones:-

* “Lou Dobbs and Bill O’Reilly are not anti-immigrant. They, like the overwhelming majority of Americans, are opposed to illegal immigrants.” - Jim Reid, San Diego
* “I feel immigration should be stopped because of overcrowding. Your article missed the point! In California, our roads and schools are packed. The highways are a mess. And you want to add more drivers? … It has nothing to do with race.” - Frank Lucia, San Diego
* “Question: Are you advocating open borders to permit anyone to enter our country from anywhere at any time? Sounds that way to me. … What’s wrong with you reporters? Are you un-American?” - Bryan Fulk, Tucson
* “Your suggestion (that) the Lou Dobbs comments regarding diseases coming in with illegal immigrants was aimed at Hispanics is simply a calumny.” - D.P. Jones, Miami.

Yes: by reducing the US per capita income to Mexican levels. At least the immigration extremists are honest.

I was sitting here reading my county paper. I brought it from the house today. I think last week I mentioned that the arrest report was all Mexicans now. Some jerk wrote in and said that the Mexicans are only getting arrested because we are all horrible racist hillbillies who are engaging in ethnic profiling. The weed needs to get a scanner and listen to the police frequencies on a Friday or Saturday night. Then he’d see that his poor, downtrodden Hispanics are busy breaking into houses, driving around the county drunk, stealing livestock from pastures, boosting motorcyles from peoples front yards, running people off the road and beating them up, driving off from gas stations with a full tank they didn’t pay for, shoplifting at convenience stores, selling stolen property, dispensing controlled substances without a license, backing into people at the grocery store parking lot and taking off, grabbing people’s wives on the rear end at the Circle K, urinating in public, throwing bottles through the Best Western sign, fighting in front of the McDonald’s, and on and on. All you have to do is listen to the radio . But I guess the twit that wrote that letter just reads the paper and lets his righteous indignation do the rest. I hope the Mexicans break into his house and do the full Monty on him. Then he can write about that.

it all boils down to this, many people out there are stupid! it just somehow happens that the majority of them are minorities, including illegal mexicans. and it doesn’t help that they’re taking at least the low-income jobs from the white people who might need a temp job. all that does is stir up the extremists.if they all just stayed in their own country and put up with the crap from their government, JUST LIKE WE DO!, then everybody would be happy!
